Peek At My Life

My passion is helping children reach their fullest academic and personal potential.  I am fortunate to work in a field where I can do this each day.  Mason County Eastern Schools is where I get to see my passion fulfilled.  I teach First Grade to a group of students who often come from worlds that are difficult in rural Mason County, Michigan.  Providing stability, structure, motivation, and high expectations helps create an environment where my students feel safe and learn to believe in their own abilities!

I am currently in my final semester of pursuing my Master of Arts in Education through Michigan State University with a concentration in Special Education.  This became my goal after considering the needs of my own students.  I work in a district where over 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and are at-risk.  I had to learn as much as I could about serving students with special education and emotional needs within my own general education classroom.  Participation as a member on my school's Student Support team opened my eyes to the world of incorporating Special Education services to inclusive classrooms.  This is what I strive to do within my own classroom and help my colleagues do in their classrooms.

When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family.  My husband, Ian, and I rescued a dog over a year ago.  Jack, an American-Staffordshire/Lab Mix has become the light of our lives and provides us with smiles and laughs everyday.  We also spend time working on our house which was built in 1900 - needless to say, it needs a little TLC!  We live right along Lake Michigan and feel blessed to enjoy what West Michigan provides year round.
