Showcase

This is a showcase of various works I have completed at Michigan State University for the Master of Arts in Education program with a Special Education Concentration.  Below are projects that represent my growth as an educator to help all children flourish in the classroom.  This showcases focuses on four main themes:  Meeting Megan with Technology, Behavioral Needs, Interventions, and the Needs of the Community I Serve.

Meeting Megan with Technology:

Vodcast Autobiography

This is a vodcast about who I am as person and a professional.  I made this vodcast to incorporate iMovie, a technology that can be used in the classroom to help general education students and students with special needs.

Special Education Website: Focus on Socio-Emotional Behavioral Disabilities

This is a website I created to show myself as an educator and a group of students I am passionate about working with - students with Socio-Emotional Behavioral Disabilities.  You will find information about these disabilities including information about how to help students with these disablitiies in the classroom.  There is also additional information about incorporating Assistive Technology into the classroom for students with disabilities.

Behavioral Needs:

The Case of Johnny: ABC Final Project

This project goes through the steps of identifying a challenging behavior, in this case shyness affecting the student academically and socially, in a student through classroom observations.  I then develop a plan, implement the plan, and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan to help the student's challenging behavior.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

In this presentation, I take a close look at Oppositional Defiant Disorder and how it affects students at school.  This presentation shows the importance of the understanding of ODD by teachers and other school staff members in order to best help students and their parents by being resources and systems of support for them.

Design Project: Max

This project allowed me to design a plan to help a student find value in the seatwork he is presented with in the classroom.  In order to do this, I created a Motivational Assessment and a Motivational Intervention which included creating goals with the student and releasing control to the student.

Collaboration for K-2 Math

In this presentation, I explain research supporting the importance of collaboration in order to help young studens who have a disability in the area of Math.  I explain how collaboration should take place among colleagues, strategies for collaboration as well as an example.

Interventions:

Literacy Learner Analysis

In this study, I worked with a Kindergarten student to help with an area of need in Literacy.  I found an area to help him with through assessment.  I then designed lessons with literacy strategies to support his needs.  At the end of the study, I once again assessed him to see the progress made.

Marginalization in Rural White Schools

This case study represents the population of students I work with and their families.  This research and data I found during this study is imporant in understanding this population and how I can best understand their needs.
